Laura Eubanks, my friend and succulent designer uses many different types of rocks to create the succulent landscapes she designs. Laura explained to me that pot feet serve two main purposes. Although they are both of the same sub-family, and share a common source, there are marked differences that separate them. Make sure you check them out all! Pot feet are important because they allow for airflow underneath the container. This allows the soil time to dry between waterings. You need somewhere to let the water out and air circulate to dry the soil. It’s most likely a problem if the soil is not able to drain and it’s glued. The Fairy Castle Cactus, like most cacti is fine with heat. A glued-down top dressing can also cause problems with airflow. The soil can also dry out faster when there is enough air flow underneath the pot.
If this is not possible, I would loosen the pebbles to allow water to flow to the roots more easily. Hard water contains high concentrations of dissolved mineral particles such as magnesium and calcium. You don’t need to break up the pebbles if you feel confident you can get water to the roots of the succulent. The top dressing can enhance or compliment the colors of your succulents. Top dressing helps to keep the soil in place during watering. To help them enter dormancy, it is important to keep the soil around the plants dry. This is not the most beautiful part of my garden at the moment, but it serves a purpose and helps prevent plants from rotting. The top dressing is especially important if you are using organic soil with very small particles. I reached out for Bonsai Jack’s help when I couldn’t find the exact thing I was looking for. Before you plant the stems, let them dry. If there are sprouts on the stem, then it is ready to be planted. It is important to have the right combination of plants in your indoor garden so that it does not fade or become stale.
Top dressings really make a succulent arrangement look finished and professional. If your succulents look limp or wilting, you need to water them. They are amazing designers and I was fortunate to photograph some of their arrangements when working on my book, Idiot’s Guides: Succulents. They are approximately two inches high and three inches wide. This makes them ideal for small succulents such as Echeverias or Haworthias. If you are using a simple grow light, placing your plant between 3 to 6 inches from the lamp is generally a good place to start. A healthy cactus signifies good prospects and the possibility of future reproduction. This is a sure sign that your succulent has absorbed more water than it can handle. These require more humidity than other drought tolerant succulents. It is becoming harder to find out where to buy succulents online. If your succulents are not thriving, you might consider moving them outside for a portion of the year. This will allow them to get more sunlight. These plants thrive outdoors more than indoors so make sure to give them some time outside during the warmer months.
Even though trimming can serve different purposes, it’s important to remember that you can always cut back the excess material to plant new plants. After the soil has dried completely, you can go ahead with your watering plan. Once you have filled the pot with the soil and plants, add the top dressing. It’s not as difficult as you think! I’ve spent hours researching online and locally to find the right item. If you’re able to manage it correctly, a cactus garden can be your best friend. Each stem can grow up to 1 ft in thickness. It can be quickly propagated by stem or leaf cuts in spring, or as soon after the start of summer. A plant can become yellow from constant watering and overwatering.
