Former police chief Yuri Zaitsev was recently sentenced to eight years in prison for acting as a bounty hunter to get a dark web marketplace. Back in December 2018, Zaitsev was working as the leader of his unit within the Main Directorate for Drugs Control of the Republic of Khakassia — a law enforcement division analogous to the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, or DEA. At that time, he initiated contact with the operator of a darknet marketplace, offering to help hunt down a man who’d appropriated drugs which were entrusted to him to get placement in dead drops.
Throughout the unrelated Canadian HQ evaluation, many law enforcement officials dropped afoul into what they perceived as easy, untraceable Bitcoin. DEA Special Agent Carl Force managed to evoke 1,200 Bitcoin from Ross Ulbricht. He got the funds employing an elaborate scheme in which he generated several fake personas which range from a major South American drug trafficker into a corrupt law enforcement official. One of the activities assigned to him Ulbricht was hunting down and murdering a former associate who’d supposedly stolen Bitcoin from him. The actual thief was another law enforcement officer involved in the investigation. The murder has been staged with Force but not materialized in reality.
Neighborhood media Il Messaggero reported on July 15 that the deep web website viewed by both also allowed users to pay extra to choose what torture the children would be exposed to following. Italian law enforcement clarified:”Users which were able to achieve those sorts of obscure environments are allowed to take part in acts of sexual violence and torture on minors, performed live by adults”
In Russia, unlike the U.S., most dark web entrepreneurs do not trust the post office for shipments. The prevailing mode of dissemination of these illegal products is rather completed through lifeless drops — a process of shipping by both parties can pass things or information back and forth without ever needing to meet in person.
The jury charged Pate and Hou for conspiring to distribute controlled substances, distributing controlled substances, conspiring to import these materials and conspiring to launder money and cash instruments.
In line with the statement published by the Department of Justice, Pate illegally bought narcotics such as OxyContin and morphine pills in the Costa Rican pharmacist Fung and laundered obligations to him.
Both were searched as part of a continuing investigation that has up to now involved 25 individuals — 19 minors and six over 18 — residing in 13 Italian states. It began in October and resulted in tens of searches.
Originally by the United States, David Brian Pate is currently a darknet vendor who along with Costa Rican pharmacist Jose Luis Hou sold drugs worth 23,903 Bitcoin (BTC) — approximately $270 million — to darknet customers.
To deliver his medication to the customers, Pate sent bulk shipments from Costa Rica and a list of consumers and their arrangement details to his partner re-shippers in the U.S.. The re-shippers then generated smaller bundles and mailed them to clients.
Pate advertised his drugs employing numerous online handles, claiming he was selling the”old formula” of the OxyContin that may be crushed and inhaled or injected. The new variant of the drug is tamper-resistant and can’t be crushed.
Speaking on the topic, the Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin stated,”These charges are a warning to drug traffickers worldwide that neither the shroud of the darknet nor of virtual currency can conceal their illegal actions from the vigilance of U.S. law enforcement.”
In accordance with this Main Investigation Department, the Devil obtained the equivalent of 52,000 rubles at Bitcoin (BTC) for his or her services. At the moment, this was equal to approximately $750 U.S. doll, or 0.2 BTC.
According to Zaitsev’s spouse, his prosecution was punishment for exploring senior officials within his agency. He was then fired and prosecuted. From October–November 2019, Zaitsev uploaded a number of movies to YouTube in which he allegedly exposed corruption among senior officers in his Directorate. This seems to be what resulted in criminal charges against him for the disclosure of classified data.
The services supplied by the website have different costs. Seeing a pre-recorded video prices much less than seeing live, but in the cases the watching concludes with the death of the child. The content also provides another example, according to which”audiences can for example request them to amputate a children’s arm or to pour hot oil within the sufferer.” Law enforcement stated:
The events which happened in Khakasia a few years following the Canadian HQ saga seem in some ways just like a cheap regional knockoff of a costly HBO show. As Karl Marx once said, history repeats itself “the first time as tragedy, the second as farce.”
