The Internet of things (IoT) is the latest technology in the digital marketing.

It is the digital trend which has had the biggest hype over the past year, and the one that everyone is waiting for. According to Cisco, about 50 billion devices will be connected by 2020, turning this into a reality with the IoT.

The IOT is the idea of physical objects, devices, or even people being connected to one another and to the internet.

It has the ability to change how everything physical in our life works. Some recent examples of this are new technologies such as Hive from British Gas, which allows you to control your heating remotely through a mobile app.

The return on digital advertising

Today, significant money is spent on digital advertising, and while estimates vary, possibly more than $120 billion will be spent on digital advertising in 2016.

That amount of money is spent because marketers know that doing so is effective; they just can't tell how effective.

Imagine an organization is budgeted to spend $1,000 a year on digital ads. For simplicity's sake that company earns revenues of $2,000.
In theory, you could say marketing produced 100 percent return on investment (ROI) for the organization's fiscal year marketing budget, which would be a great return. But what if it only spent half that amount? Would it only earn $1,000 in revenues?

This scenario offers a basic example, but it illustrates my thesis: the most sophisticated customers and marketing analytics platforms struggle to establish true causality. Many come very close, PTS Terbaik ASEAN but marketing spend will always be a correlation to sales, not the reverse.

How is Digital Marketing impacting Internet of Things (IOT)?

Digital marketing, which is marked by the exchange of information through online platform will have to adapt to whatever forms of communication and behaviors that the users develop online. The IoT allows for virtually endless opportunities and connections through various devices and objects that digital marketers can take advantage.

The impact of big data that is constantly flowing through an ever-increasing array of devices with scores of sensors has a better prospect of learning more about the consumer behavior.

The face of digital marketing itself is expected to undergo a major change with plenty of opportunities for internet marketers to get access to consumer data in a much easier way than before.

Digital marketers would have more access to information about their prospective clients/customers who are connected to these devices. This interaction as such will help digital marketers in understanding more about the consumer behavior through the comprehensive usage of data.

The higher the number of contact points the more the digital marketers would be able to target the potential customers and better tailor interactions throughout the marketing funnel. The other important advantage that would be derived by the digital marketers is that organic traffic bought in by the company website will change along with the search engine's effort in embracing more amounts of data entailed by the IoT.

The Internet of Things would make smart devices and networks joined together with the data sets combined enabling the customers to form a direct connection with products they are using without the intervention from any third party vendor or merchant. In addition, IoT would also be going to be a challenge to digital marketers with the rapid increase of sophisticated devices requiring them to consider context and in applying methods and skills in a different way.

Marketers may also face ethical issues or concerns from consumers as the former would have every information of the consumer's day-to-day habits that may at times seem too invasive. Therefore, digital marketers need to be expert with analyzing and processing the data before working on their 'IoT' marketing strategy 'as part of digital marketing.

Future Prospects of 'IoT'

Although important, a key thing to remember is that although the IoT movement is fast approaching, it will still take a while to become universal, so don't rush it. The main thing will be to become an expert with analyzing and processing the data you have now so you are fully prepared for more!
