The NIU College of Education embeds diverse, real-world learning opportunities in its programs, including Kinesiology. Within the 30 credits of required General Education Domain courses, students must take 6 credits of Integrative Studies courses (Inter-domain or Linked courses). All students with 25 credit hours must have a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA. A student must have at least an overall 3.25 GPA. Usually, internships happen after the student has completed certain courses and been enrolled in the program for several semesters. The OLLU Kinesiology program is officially recognized as an approved program by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Recent graduates have pursued careers as certified athletic trainers in a variety of settings, including high school and college athletics, as well as cardiac rehabilitation, strength & conditioning coaching, personal training, corporate fitness, and health promotion settings. Certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Academy of Sports Medicine, and American Council of Exercise are respectable within the field.
