Despite costing much less than competing cordless vacuum cleaner options, the M X6 was the fourth-best performer in our test group of eight models. Chris Monroe/CNET

Moosoo may not be a household name. Even so, the Moosoo M X6 cordless vacuum packs a respectable punch, considering its low price.

The 70-year-old bought the dilapidated building in Hessle, five miles north of Hull, in April 2019 for £125,000, primer before tiling with an initial £150,000 budget for the project and a proposed time-frame of just seven months.

As the second-best professional tile cutter performer in our current cordless vacuum test group, the Tineco A11 Hero represents an outstanding deal. With an average 72.5% sand pick up from midpile carpeting, and 82.5% sand removal from low-pile carpet, the Hero performs better. This cordless stick vac also costs less than the Shark, a fact that’s hard to overlook. So much so that it has officially bumped the Shark Rocket Pet Pro Cordless out of our top pick for best midrange cordless vacuum.

Son-in-law Andrew acted as project manager. And in addition, Bernie split from his partner Jenni – a therapist and healer – during the project. Complicating the already major renovations was the fact that Bernie lived around 200-miles away from Hessle in Bristol.

In this list, we’ve compiled our top picks into one handy location. We will keep all of these lists updated as new models come on the market and we test new categories.  We’ve conducted rounds of testing to find the best cordless vacuums and the best robot vacuums. You can dig into each of those articles for in-depth recommendations on each sub-category.

Don’t buy the Moosoo M X6, though, if you’re a pet owner. The brush roll tends how to prevent grout haze wrap strands of hair around itself as well. Cons are that at least some visible dander remained after vacuuming, no matter the test surface.

In our experience, the V15 is excellent at pulling pet hair from various floor surfaces.  It’s also the best-performing cordless vacuum we’ve ever tested. Brian Bennett/CNET

As Dyson’s latest and greatest stick vac, dewalt handheld tile saw the V15 Detect has lots of bells and whistles, plus a huge sticker price to match.

Some are good practice even if your property has not been flooded before.  Preparing for the risk of flooding A little planning can help cut the risk of flooding and reduce the damage if your home is hit.

You can see the navigation results of all the robot vacuums in our test group in the gallery below. That photo will then have a light trail, created by the LEDs, that shows the exact areas where the robot traveled (and its nozzle position) during its runtime. As robots move through the room while cleaning, a camera overhead captures a long-exposure image of the entire room in low light. We can also see areas of the floor the vacuum may have missed or gotten stuck.

‘Local authorities and planning teams probably aren’t doing enough to detract housebuilders from building in certain areas, nor do they interrogate the design of houses enough to ensure they are flood-resistant. But given the need for housing, it’s not top of the list of concerns.’

However, since then, 70,000 homes have been built in areas at risk of flooding. However, developers don’t always mitigate against the risk.  You can check if you are eligible for the scheme and which insurers are signed up Robert Burke, head of project management and building consultancy for estate agent Cluttons, says: ‘Housebuilders do build in flood zones, and some homes look quite attractive with a countryside appeal.
