Developed by Dementia Care Education, the 8-hour Dementia Care Certified® training serves as a national model for educating caregivers, administrators, case managers, social workers, nurses, support group leaders, educators, practicing professionals, and students across multiple disciplines who will benefit from advancing their knowledge of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. The Copper Ridge Institute has developed a modular training program designed for the education of health care professionals, primarily nurses and nursing aides, in collaboration with investigators associated with the Johns Hopkins ADRC (Drs. The Understanding Dementia MOOC was developed by the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre based in the College of Health and Medicine at the University of Tasmania. Originally developed by DFA partner ACT on Alzheimer’s, the training focuses on understanding Dementia Certification Courses and taking action to create an environment that is safe, respectful, and welcoming for people living with dementia. Students who successfully complete the CNA Plus program will receive a Certified Nurse Aide certificate. Due to pandemic related staffing and financial constraints, the Advanced Dementia Care Specialist Certificate will no longer be accepting new enrollments. The certificate is a self-paced program where all content, quizzes and evaluations are provided online. Ideal for training and orientation at long-term care facilities or educational institutions, this modular training program is targeted at a very basic level so that it can be accessible to caregivers, regardless of educational background. The certificate is an online self-paced program designed to fit within the healthcare professional’s busy schedule. The goal of the certificate is to increase providers’ knowledge of dementia.
