Sir Richard Branson today became the first billionaire to make it into space on his own commercial spacecraft after the Virgin Galactic founder took off on a flight to the edge of earth’s atmosphere in the VSS Unity plane in New Mexico.

The first instalment of the reboot won instant praise from fans after it dropped Friday morning, with many taking to social media to declare it was everything they had hoped for over the show’s near decade-long hiatus.

The group have all said that they were inspired by the first moon landing in 1969, when the US beat the Soviet Union in the space race, and had previously said how much it would mean for each to win the ‘new space race’.

Eloise Head, who became a social media sensation during the first Covid lockdown by posting videos of desserts on her now-viral food blog, FitWaffle Kitchen, makes the treats with chocolate, fudge icing and a box of pre-made chocolate cake mix.

Although the pair form part of a three-way billionaire space race with Jeff Bezos, both Musk and Branson appear in good spirits, with Musk posing for a picture with the British entrepreneur before his historic space mission.

The recipe could be a welcome distraction for the five million Sydneysiders stuck in lockdown, which looks set to continue well beyond Friday’s intended end date after a trail of Covid seeping across the city’s south-west touched 21 new exposure sites.

Branson called it the “experience of a lifetime” in a staticky radio transmission from Unity as it began to glide back to Earth. The craft then returned for a picture-perfect landing near the same spot VMS Eve launched from almost exactly an hour earlier. “Welcome to the dawn of a new space age,” the 70-year-old Branson said later from the tarmac of Spaceport America.

The billionaire trio, with a combined net worth exceeding $380 billion (£274bn), have poured their near limitless resources into their respective space start-ups in the hopes of revolutionising aerospace journeys.

“She held on for one last victory, managing to fight off the virus, but had expended all of her energy in the process,” Branson wrote in a blog post citing her as a major inspiration and force behind his career. “She took glider lessons disguised as a boy, enlisted in the WRENS (Women’s Royal Naval Service) during World War II … she was inventive, fearless, relentless — an entrepreneur before the word existed.”

For its entire six season run, the original CW show’s central mystery revolved around who was behind a blog that dished out the scandalous secrets of the privileged teenagers attending an exclusive private school in Manhattan.

To mark the release of the premiere on BINGE, the Australian streaming service has teamed up with beauty brand Karen Murrell to create a collection of four limited-edition lipsticks named after the show’s best-loved quotes.

British billionaire Richard Branson completed his latest, and arguably greatest, adventure Sunday with a brief flight to the edge of space aboard his Virgin Galactic space plane. The flight marks not only Branson’s first trip to space, but the first time Virgin has flown a fully crewed cabin.

Sir Richard soon posted a light-hearted reply that read: ‘Thanks for being so typically supportive and such a good friend, Elon. Great to be opening up space for all – safe travels and see you at Spaceport America!’

The billionaire entrepreneur told the Times earlier today the view alone will be worth the billion pounds he has spent on the project and added: ‘I think it’s one of the reasons that people want to become astronauts.

The Gossip Girl reboot (pictured, the cast) premiered in Australia on BINGE on July 9, with a shocking twist that revealed the identity of Gossip Girl in the first episode - a group of the high school’s teachers, led by Kate Keller (Tavi Gevinson)

After a nine-year wait since the finale of the original show, which ran from 2007 to 2012, a group of new ‘Upper East Siders’ are scandalising the leafy streets of Manhattan with backstabbing, betrayal and racy rumour spreading.
