Melbourne legend Rex Hunt has terminated his radio career by launching a furious on-air rant at his ‘lightweight’ bosses.
The veteran AFL commentator unloaded on 3AW’s head of football Craig Moore mid-broadcast for pulling him up over a missed ad break during his Footy Nightline show.
The footy and fishing show presenter hit back and screamed on air at the executive not to ‘ring during my program, got it?’
The outburst came after an interview with former Hawthorn great and TV personality Robert DiPierdomenico overran its timeslot.

‘Yeah, thanks Craig,’ Mr Hunt, Gading88 72, told listeners.
‘I’ve got steam coming out of my ears.
‘I tell you now Craig, why we dropped a break was because we were speaking to a man [who] played 240 games and scored 130 goals more than you, Craig…
‘Why do I steam?
Because you’re losing the very feel of what 3AW was built up from: Norman Banks and Harry Beitzel and some other fish kissin’ idiot.

‘I’ll drop it now, but don’t ring during my program, got it?’
He added: ‘It might be my last night. I feel good and I don’t need people telling me to shut up.
‘Because I take you where millions of people go and you will never come back from it.

‘And if I have to worry about lightweights, after me building the foundation for most of you people, I’ll just go fishing.’
Today station management confirmed to staff that the longtime station identity had left the building for the last time.
Station manager Stephen Beers sent a memo to staff saying: ‘Rex Hunt has advised us that he is sadly taking leave of his duties at 3AW to focus on his family.
‘As much as he has loved his return to 3AW and we have loved having him on Footy Nightline, we wish him well for the future.
‘Rex knows the door is always open for him.’
