He was crowned the winner of Great British Bake Off in 2019.

And baking aficionado David Atherton amusingly recalled the moment he wore a very rude badge in the GBBO tent to prank the cast and crew.

The health advisor, 38, who was known for his cheeky innuendos on the cooking competition, took to Twitter on Wednesday to discuss the moment he was ‘spotted’ wearing the X-rated accessory.

He shared a seemingly innocent photo at the Channel 4 marquee with his arm fondly wrapped around contestant Michelle Evan-Fecci.

Upon closer inspection, the snap revealed his explicit badge which read: ‘I love a**l,’ positioned on top of his navy jumper.

He captioned the upload to his 28,000 followers: ‘Just remembering the time I tried to get away with wearing this badge on Bake Off.
I got it into the tent, but then it was spotted.’

His co-star Michael Chakraverty, who took the picture, responded on the post asking for credit, to which David responded: ‘This is true, you were the illegal photographer.

‘Getting a phone into the tent basically means you could be a spy.’

David, who identifies as homosexual and is in a relationship of four years with partner Nik, also took to Instagram to encourage others to speak freely about sex after wearing the badge.

He said: ‘Waking up in the morning, thinking about so many things.

Wishing things could get better….I was trying to represent!

‘Jokes aside, I would like to make the point that sex is talked about all the time in the media but people still have issues mentioning a**l sex. It’s just sex.’

He quipped: ‘I also need to find that badge.’

Bake Off is currently Channel 4′s biggest ever show, with 10.4 million viewers tuning in to see the final last year.

The GBBO’s infamous tent was erected in the grounds of Down Hall Hotel in Essex earlier this month as filming kicked off for the 12th series.

Images saw the large white marquee set up in the sprawling green gardens of the luxurious 98 bedroom historic property, where the judges, cast and crew quarantined ahead of the new series.

Aerial views also showed various other temporary buildings, outhouses and tents set up around the hotel, which included Shepherds’ huts for judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, as well as hosts Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding

And it appears that show bosses had everything they needed to ensure this year’s series runs smoothly and safely amid Covid-19 restrictions, with a medical van spotted nearby.

It comes as it’s been reported that bosses are taking no chances amid the pandemic this year, with the cast having isolated in the swanky hotel, which has been designed to reflect ‘grandeur, elegance and character’.

Reports last month claimed the stars were staying at the abode from mid May until the start of July, with the new series set to air at the end of summer and into the autumn.

A source told <a style="font-weight: bold;" class="class" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank" website Sun at the time: ‘Although many of the rules and regulations that made filming difficult are now easing, the producers of the show wanted to be extra cautious.

‘Lockdown is still set to fully lift next month, but changing events could mean that doesn’t happen, or restrictions that have recently eased could be brought back into force.

‘But this covers them for any eventuality — it also means they’ll enjoy a rather nice retreat too.’
