Jonathan Bush, brother of President George H.W. Bush, dies

Jonathan Bush – the younger brother of the late President George H.W.
Bush and uncle of former President George W. Bush – has died one day before his 90th birthday. 

Bush passed away Wednesday at his home in Jupiter, Florida, according to a spokesman for the George & Barbara Bush Foundation.  

His son Billy Bush also confirmed his death in an Instagram post where he remembered his father as the ‘greatest man I’ll ever know.’ 

Bush would have celebrated his milestone birthday Thursday.

His cause of death has not been revealed.  

The George & Barbara Bush Foundation paid tribute to Bush as ‘a fine gentleman and a noble soul,’ adding that he was ‘a great song and dance man – without a doubt the best dancer of his siblings.’ 

‘The foundation pauses to mourn the passing of President Bush’s beloved brother Jonathan,’ it read.

‘Our prayers and love are with the Bush family as we remember a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother, a fine gentleman, and a noble soul.’

It continued: ‘And knowing Jonathan, he also would like for us to observe he was a great song and dance man – without a doubt the best dancer of his siblings, all of whom he now joins in heaven.’ 

The statement closed out saying: ‘May God Bless Jonathan Bush.’ 

Billy posted an emotional tribute to his father on Instagram alongside a series of family photos. 

‘There goes the greatest man I’ll ever know. Happy 90th dad and thanks for this great life and being the best dad ever,’ wrote Billy.  

‘Everything worth knowing I got from you and mom.

I watched you leave this earth and I know exactly where you are now. 

‘It makes me happy. I feel blessed. The legend will never fade.’

In an Instagram post back in March, Billy revealed that his father had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. 

‘My dear old dad is vaxxed and ready to party,’ he captioned a selfie with his dad seen walking in the background outside.  

Bush was the last surviving member of the elder Bush family’s five siblings.

George H.W.
Bush died in 2018 at his Houston home. Their sister, Nancy Bush Ellis, died in January. Brother William Henry Trotter Bush, known as ‘Bucky,’ died in 2018, and brother Prescott S. Bush Jr. died in 2010.

Their father was Prescott Sheldon Bush, a US senator from Connecticut from 1952 to 1963.

Born in Greenwich, Connecticut, Bush opted for a career in finance. 

He founded investment management firm J.

Bush & Company, but when his brother became Vice President in 1981 he started to become more involved in politics. 

In 1983, he became the state Republican Party’s finance chairman raising money for the party and mixing in political circles.    

He then helped his brother on the road to the White House when he led a song called ‘Vote for George Bush’ in the 1988 Republican Presidential primary in New York.  

He was among the family members his brother sent to be official stand-ins at ceremonies across the world and later helped raise funds for his nephew’s presidential campaign.

Bush and his wife Josephine had two sons together – Billy and Jonathan S.

Bush. 

Billy was infamously fired by NBC due to the infamous ‘Access Hollywood’ tape with Donald Trump and now hosts the pop culture news show ‘Extra.’ 

Meanwhile the younger Jonathan is a health care executive.
