In my twenty plus years of IT and Telecom consulting, I have discovered small businesses have the same needs as large enterprises. My clients were always smart enough to hire me to advise and oversee their IT and Telecom implementations. Many small business owners that I meet today tend to attempt to impress me with what they’ve done using the wired and wireless network for their small business.
Why are we so negative (or fearful ) of planning? Why do organizations not spend enough time teaching the Business Management skill of planning? Conversely, why do organizations compose elaborate plans, just to push them in a drawer till the next’planning season’ rolls around? If companies used planning as the tool for which it was intended – to make a map for the future of the business and how they are going to get there – they would derive tremendous benefit from the planning process.
It would also be a fair guess that just about all the managers of these small Business growth management must take part in multi tasking every day. In this author’s opinion there are only two kinds of multi-tasking: enjoyable or dreadful. An individual will probably either love it or hate it. Multi tasking is stressful either way, but it is extremely stressful for people who hate it.
Owing a small company is a spectacularly individual adventure. You’ll have different levels of entrepreneurial expertise from the small business owner beside you. What is universal is that you are expected to know a great deal about everything in business, from managing and marketing staff to cashflow and customers, often straight away.
Manual tools such as Excel and Word templates are perfectly workable when you have just few clients however, the situation changes quickly when your business takes off. You will be much more efficient using dedicated tools for Small Business Management.
You’ll employ people because they bring specialist skills to you. But they must be prepared to”fill-in” and”help out” in areas outside their specialty.
Let’s not forget, as you become absorbed in the doing, you need reminders of why you’re in business in the first location. Maintain your life vision and your business vision in your line of sight on a regular basis so that you can draw on the inspiration to sustain your balance!
